The Crime Scene Investigator Fast-Track Diploma program, available online, teaches students the fundamental theories of criminal justice, criminal and civil law and science. Students receiving crime scene investigator training will learn how to collect and analyze crime scene evidence such as blood splatter patterns, fingerprints, tire tracks, shoe impressions, and more, using science to answer questions that support investigators and prosecutors.

Crime Scene Investigator Fast-Track Diploma graduates may be eligible for the following civilian positions:
Crime Scene Investigator: As a crime scene investigator you would locate, identify, collect, classify, prepare, preserve and analyze a variety of physical evidence from crime scenes to support the investigations branch of law enforcement. A crime scene investigator may also be required to take measurements and photographs of evidence at the scene, as well as create scaled drawings. A crime scene investigator might also assist the coroner at death scenes, and sometimes attends autopsies to collect evidence and photograph examinations. Creating written reports of investigations and evidence findings are typically a requirement of this job.
Crime Scene Technician: In the technician role you would work at the crime scene to identify and recover evidence such as latent fingerprints or palm prints, traces of body fluids and DNA samples, and other physical specimens for lab analysis. In this role you would typically be responsible for documenting the crime scene through photos, sketches and diagrams. Writing up reports of all evidence findings is generally required for presentation in court, and the crime scene technician is sometimes called upon to give courtroom testimony.
Forensic Science Technician: As a forensic science technician you would work in a laboratory, helping to process evidence collected from crime scenes to support investigators and law enforcement. A forensic science technician typically prepares and screens fluids and materials for the presence of contaminants or foreign substances. Your duties might include testing the physical, chemical, serological and bacterial properties of body fluids, water and beverages, food products, wastes, soils and construction materials. The technician must accurately prepare chemical reagents and biological media according to standard formulae and solutions, always monitoring expiration of reagents.

Forensic Attendant: In this role you would follow procedures for transporting, handling, and preparing decedents for post-mortem examinations and subsequent release to mortuaries. As a forensic attendant you might be required to drive to locations to recover and transport bodies and/or specimens from death scenes, hospitals, and nursing homes. You would also receive and process bodies into the morgue or Coroner’s Department and related facilities. Your duties might include collecting, preserving and logging physical and medical evidence to include fingerprinting bodies and writing receipts for decedents’ clothing and personal property.
Identification Technician: Your responsibilities as an identification technician would typically include obtaining and processing fingerprints of arrested persons in a jail setting to help determine identity and prior criminal records. You would also be expected to collect and preserve latent fingerprints and related evidence from crime scenes and vehicles, using various methods including photography, powder, cyanoacrylate fuming, hot flame processing and crystal violet dye. In this role you might also be asked to testify in court as an expert witness regarding fingerprint evidence.
